CANTON — The Fairfield Inn project is moving forward with foundation work and site clearing underway next door to University Plaza on Route 11.
The expected completion date of the project will be spring or summer of next year, said Minesh Patel, the chief financial officer for Vision Hotels, the management company developing the property based in Corning and Rochester.
“This is being built to the newest Marriot specs,” said Patel Friday. The CFO said the new hotel will be a “state-of-the-art” facility featuring WiFi connections, a pool, meeting space to accommodate 50-75 people. The building will be three stories and offer about 80 rooms for accommodations and the Fairfield Inn breakfast.
Patel said that the project is still in the early stages, with site work and foundation construction just begun, and could not give final budget projects for the cost.
However, the CFO said the company would employ 12 to 15 full time people.
Patel said the hotel will cater to the local corporate clientele, as well as the university system and the local populace.
