Enbridge breaking ground for gas distribution into Winthrop, Brasher Falls, North Lawrence, eastward

MALONE -- Enbridge St. Lawrence Gas Company will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking for its expansion project at 1 p.m. today.

The project will bring natural gas distribution to northeastern St. Lawrence County and Franklin County.

The ceremony represents the official start of construction and the culmination of over 10 years of planning to expand the company’s distribution system and provide natural gas to the communities of Winthrop, Brasher Falls and North Lawrence in St. Lawrence County and Moira, North Bangor, Brushton, Malone, Burke and Chateaugay in Franklin County.

Construction has already commenced on the eight-inch steel transmission line and will continue over the next several years as the company builds the distribution system into the expansion area.

Officials from Enbridge St. Lawrence Gas, government and civic organizations will participate in the afternoon groundbreaking ceremony at the Airport Pavilion in Malone

Remarks will be made by New York State Senator Betty Little, New York State Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, Gordon Crossman, Chair of the Franklin County Legislature, Paul Maroun, Franklin County Legislator, Garry Douglas, Co-Chair of the North Country Regional Council and James Pratt V. P. Operations, Agri-Mark McCadam.

Enbridge St. Lawrence Gas is owned by Enbridge Gas Distribution, Canada’s largest natural gas distribution company. Enbridge Gas Distribution is owned by Enbridge Inc., a Canadian-based energy transportation and distribution company. Enbridge owns and operates distribution services in Ontario, which distributes natural gas to more than 1.9 million customers in Ontario, New York, New Brunswick and southwestern Quebec.
