OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Career Center will officially open for business at its new location, 1031 Patterson St., on Aug. 15.

The center is now at 1020 Park St. #1.

Minor renovations at the building are underway, according to the Department of Labor.

The department says the new center “will offer the full range of services for businesses and job seekers that the Department currently provides.”

Career counselors can provide one-on-one or classroom-style assistance to those who need it.

Ogdensburg City Council on June 13 unanimously passed a resolution calling for the DOL to maintain a career center in town.

“Moving the New York State Labor Department Ogdensburg Office outside of the City of Ogdensburg would cause a hardship for many residents of the Ogdensburg area for whom travel and access to other Department of Labor facilities outside of this region would be difficult,” the resolution said.

“The Department of Labor remains committed to the City of Ogdensburg and looks forward to continuing to serve the workers and businesses here,” DOL Commissioner Roberta Reardon said in a prepared statement. “The people of Ogdensburg made it clear that they wanted our local office to stay within city limits, and we are pleased that we were able to find a suitable location that met everyone’s needs. Our mission is to help those who are looking for work to find it and I’m pleased that we will continue doing that here.”

The DOL operates 96 Career Centers statewide. Each offers “comprehensive services designed to help job seekers as they conduct their employment searches,” DOL said.
