OGDENSBURG -- The deadline for nominations for The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year, Business Improvement and Outstanding Community Service awards has been extended until Oct. 1.

The awards will be presented at the chamber’s annual dinner on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Gran-View Restaurant.

The categories and qualifications are as follows:

• Citizen of the Year -- Please nominate the person, couple or family with a written nomination and a brief explanation about what qualifies them for Citizen of the Year Award.

Criteria: Is this service work or part of their job? If it is part of their job – do they go above the job description? Have they been involved in a variety of projects or groups over the years? Does their work impact many or just a few? Are they creative? Are they leaders who motivate others? Do they work hard to improve Ogdensburg and/or the surrounding communities?

• Business Improvement Award – Please nominate the business with a written nomination and a brief explanation about their qualities for the Business Improvement Award. The chamber is looking for nominees that have had a profound positive impact on the community and its appearance by renovating and revitalizing an existing building or area into a thriving business enterprise in which the community can be proud.

Criteria: Has the nominee renovated or revitalized an existing site? Is the business thriving? Has the improvement to the site made a positive impact on the community? Does the business impact many people or just a few?

• Outstanding Community Service Award -- A significant change has been made in the criteria for the Outstanding Community Service Award – the chamber is seeking a group or organization who has made a substantial contribution of their time, work and philosophies into a project or program for which the entire Ogdensburg and surrounding communities benefits.

Please nominate the group or organization with a written nomination and a brief explanation about what qualifies them for the Outstanding Community Service Award.

Criteria: Does their service extend to all citizens in the city and surrounding communities? Have they been providing this service for many years? Does their service provide a feeling of pride and well-being for our city? Does this group or organization promote the City of Ogdensburg?

The chamber criteria was developed to better clarify the categories for nominees and to help the committee make their appropriate selections for the winners for each award.

Some nominees have been nominated in at least two categories in the past.

All nomination forms may be picked up at the chamber office or downloaded from www.ogdensburgny.com.
