NORTH LAWRENCE -- Government officials and local businesspeople will gather in North Lawrence today to celebrate the return to production of the newly revived North Country Dairy.
A subsidiary of Upstate Niagara Cooperative, Inc., North Country Dairy will produce all types of yogurt for national foodservice and retail partners.
The celebration will formally mark the success of the yogurt production facility and rehiring of 80 employees.
The coop’s purchase of the facility, which had been shut down by the previous owner, was facilitated by an allocation of low-cost New York Power Authority hydropower and other financial incentives provided by the state and St. Lawrence County.
Expected guest speakers include New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine, New York Power Authority Trustee and former St. Lawrence County Judge Eugene Nicandri, NYPA President and CEO Gil Quiniones; St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency Vice Chairman Ernest LaBaff, and Empire State Development Corporation Program Specialist John VanDeLoo.
Speaking on behalf of Upstate Niagara Cooperative is Lawrence Webster, CEO; Daniel J. Wolf, President and Chairman of the Board; and Matthew P. Davis, Plant Manager of North Country Dairy.
North Country Dairy says it has expansion plans that call for the manufacture of over 100 million pounds of yogurt and employment in excess of 100.
