Canton's Harvest House Gift & Frame gets $22K grant for equipment and working capital

CANTON -- Harvest House Gift & Frame, 5821 Rt. 11, has been awarded a grant to purchase equipment and for working capital that will increase sales and improve operating efficiencies.

$22,050 were awarded from the St. Lawrence County Local Development Corporation Microenterprise Grant Program.

Owner Jeremy Morrow began his appreciation for art as a boy working alongside his father John Morrow, an Ogdensburg artist well known for his North Country landscape scenes. Jeremy matted and framed prints for his dad, and gained experience. He studied art in college and went on to frame professionally in various parts of the U.S. Morrow opened his own shop in the former McCarthy’s Restaurant last year.

The shop provides custom picture framing, large formats, photo quality ink jet printing, and giclée prints.

He has started accepting local artists’ work on consignment and, as an experienced artist, he intends to sell his own work at the shop.

“To be competitive in today’s economy you have to have the best tools, the best service, the best materials and the best price,” says Morrow. “I believe this grant will open a lot of doors for my business. By lowering my expenses I can invest more money into the business and stay on the leading edge. I want to continue to offer my customers the newest and best technologies and tools available in the picture framing and printing industries.”

Though the building he is in has been sold, Harvest House will remain there through sometime in June. Hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. He is looking for a new spot for the business that will provide his customers with the same convenience of parking and easy loading and unloading.

SLCLDC CEO Raymond Fountain said, “We are helping Jeremy to site his new location and are glad to provide the support he needs to build a strong business for years to come.”
