North Country Showcase, St. Lawrence Centre Mall, will hold a book signing, hard cider sampling, and cookie decorating workshops the weekend of Dec. 16 and 17.
A book signing by Ogdensburg writer Barbara Briggs Ward will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. Briggs Ward will read from her Christmas trilogy for adults featuring “The Reindeer Keeper,” (selected by Yahoo’s Christmas Book Club as their December 2012 Book of the Month), “The Snowman Maker,” and ending with “The Candle Giver.”
Barbara’s short stories have appeared in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books, “Christmas Magic and Family Caregivers,” plus Ladies’ Home Journal, Redbook, and The Crafts Report. Her short story, “The Great Berry Pie Cook-Off,” was a First Friday Fiction selection appearing on The Saturday Evening Post’s website.
Barbara’s work includes her book, “A Robin’s Snow” (an Amish mystery/love story); a short story for children published in Highlights for Children, two picture books she both wrote and illustrated, “The Really, Really Hairy Flight of Snarly Sally” and “Snarly Sally’s Garden of ABCs,” as well as two picture books for the NYS Office of Mental Health.
A “Sip & Shop” will be held Saturday, from 1-4 p.m. with Kaneb Orchards of Massena. Music will be provided by local musician David Wells.
The weekend will conclude Sunday, Dec. 17, with two cookie decorating workshops, at noon and 2 p.m. Join Kristen Ashley, owner and baker of Sugar Valley Bakery who will feature a variety of cookie designs for Christmas. Admission is $25 per person (parents may assist younger children). The workshops include: one dozen themed cookies, 4 bags of icing, assorted sprinkles to use, and a decorative gift box, allowing you to bring them home and show off your creations.
Kristen will bring a set of cookies as examples and decorate the set onsite. She will discuss royal icing techniques such as wet-on-wet application and the use of sprinkles in your designs.
