Black Friday can be a big day for retailers of all sizes, not just Walmart and Macy’s stores.
A few Canton and Potsdam retailers we spoke with today said it was a good day-after-Thanksgiving for them.
Marilyn Mintener of The Pear Tree gift shop at 77 Main St. in Canton said it was “surprisingly busy” in her store Friday afternoon.
“We’ve had lots of visits from out-of-towners today,” she said.
At St. Lawrence University’s Brewer Bookstore on Park Street, assistant manager Melinda Goss said they did not anticipate any big rush today, since all the students are away, but “it’s been busy,” she said.
“Typically people will go to the big sales on Black Friday and then come by later for the holiday ambience,” she said.
At Northern Music and Video and at The Isle of You on Market Street in Potsdam, sales were good.
Pam Hazen at The Isle of You said her shop of women’s clothing and accessories had been going great guns all day.
The store was full of chattering shoppers when we inquired how the day was going.
Hazen said all kinds of items were selling, especially Ugg slippers and boots, and Frye boots.
Christ Smutz at Northern Music and Video said it was a busy Friday there. No single item seemed to be the one to be flying off the shelves. “We’ve been selling everything, to be honest.
“It’s a good Black Friday all around,” he said.
