St. Lawrence County's four colleges all have received accolades from U.S. News and World Report

SUNY Potsdam was the top-ranked SUNY regional university in the new 2015 Best Colleges for Veterans list, the only SUNY school to make the list, the college said. The school also says they were ranked in the top tier of regional universities in the northeast U.S.

"The best colleges for veterans list includes campuses who are members of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium, are certified for the G.I. Bill, and charge in-state tuition for out-of-state veterans -- meaning the cost of all veterans' education is covered by G.I. Bill benefits," SUNY Potsdam said. "The campuses are then ranked according to their performance on the overall Best Regional Universities list."

Clarkson is also again on the U.S. News "Great Schools, Great Prices" list (Best Value Schools), which takes into account a school's academic quality, as indicated by its 2015 U.S. News Best Colleges ranking, and the 2013-2014 net cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of need-based financial aid.

The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal. Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included, because U.S. News considers the most significant values to be among colleges that are above average academically.

Clarkson ranked 121 in the publication's "Best Colleges" list with is based on "academic quality," Clarkson said. The school also says they were also on the "A+ Options for B Students" list, meaning they accept "nonsuperstars who have potential and will work hard."

SUNY Canton was ranked among the top 61 colleges in the "Regional Colleges-North" division, "based on colleges that focus on undergraduate education but grant fewer than half their degrees in liberal art disciplines," SUNY Canton said.

St. Lawrence University was ranked 56 in the "Best National Liberal Arts Colleges" category, according to SLU. The school said they were also included on the "A+ Schools for B Students" list.

SLU said the liberal arts list "categorizes national liberal arts colleges as institutions that focus almost exclusively on undergraduate education and award at least 50 percent of their degrees in the arts and sciences."
