POTSDAM - SUNY Potsdam sophomore men's lacrosse player Saka Thompson of Akwesasne, a Salmon River graduate, has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 28.
It was the second week in a row, and the fourth time this season, Thompson has claimed the honor.
Thompson helped the Bears to two more wins and a playoff berth with a 6.64 goals-against average and a .676 save percentage.
The goalie allowed just one goal and made six saves in a 17-4 win over Plattsburgh on Wednesday. In a playoff clinching 11-10 overtime victory at Brockport on Saturday, the he stopped 17 shots.
Thompson leads the nation with a .659 save percentage and leads the SUNYAC and is sixth in the country with a goals-against-average of 7.17.
Thompson leads the fourth-seeded Bears (9-5, 4-3) into the SUNYAC Semifinals at top-seeded SUNY Cortland (11-4, 7-0) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
